| Summary: |
International Stem Cell Corporation (ISCO) is an early-stage stem cell therapeutics company with corporate headquarters and research facilities based in Oceanside, CA. The company's product development and manufacturing facilities are located in Walkersville, MD. International research facilities have been established in Moscow Russia.
ISCO’s mission is to bring to market unlimited numbers of therapeutic-grade human cells to treat human degenerative diseases using parthenogenetic stem cell technology. A technology that derives stem cells from unfertilized human eggs. ISCO’s initial focus is on the treatment of diabetes, liver disease and diseases of the retina, these are therapeutic areas in which ISCO has experience, knowledge and strong intellectual property.
ISCO’s technology is superior in that it avoids immune rejection, it is efficient and ethically acceptable.
ISCO will expand into the field of stem cell therapy by strategic mergers and acquisitions with companies developing new stem cell technologies, and by collaborations with domestic and international laboratories.
There are millions of people in the U.S. suffering from diseases who are potential candidates for cell transplant therapy, but the available therapeutic cells are limited and are often rejected by the patient’s immune system. ISCO’s therapeutic program solves those problems.
ISCO will soon launch animal trials to demonstrate the ability of retinal cells derived from proprietary human parthenogenic stem cells to treat Macular Degeneration and Retinitis Pigmentosa. Human trails are expected to commence in 2009. Similar trials of corneal cells and pancreatic islets cells for the treatment of diabetes are planned in the near future.
ISCO is generating revenue and building its manufacturing resources through production and sales of research products through its wholly-owned subsidiary Lifeline Cell Technology (lifelinecelltech.com). Lifeline develops, manufactures and sells human cells and culture reagents.
Lifeline’s customers are scientists working in major research organizations such as pharmaceutical companies, and academic and government institutions. Lifeline’s specialized products for the culture of human cells, including serum-free and defined media and cell culture reagents, eliminate the need for each scientist to create his or her own media and reagents or try to adapt “off the shelf” products to the specialized world of human stem cell research. Our modern laboratories assure consistent quality products throughout the research process.
