ISCO International Announces "Proteus" for Digital Radio Frequency Signal Processing

New Technology "Unleashes Spectrum", Enabling Aggressive Deployment of UMTS900 Wireless Networks

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill.--ISCO International, Inc. (AMEX:ISO), a leading provider of spectrum conditioning solutions for wireless carriers, today announced Proteus -- with breakthrough FastSCAN2 signal processing technology that enables international wireless carriers to maximize capacity for call handling and data transmissions.

As carriers around the world increasingly deploy 3G networks -- using UMTS in the same band as preexisting GSM networks -- Proteus becomes a vital tool for realizing optimal use of spectrum.

Proteus employs proprietary signal processing algorithms to reduce inter-system interference, enabling heterogeneous network elements to be operated in closer proximity and directly improving spectrum utilization. Proteus is a solution for telecommunications carriers that employ "mixed network environments" – network environments that are growing in popularity in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. The Proteus solution would, for example, provide greater spectral efficiency to carriers deploying UMTS in the same frequency where GSM exists today.

"ISCO has extensive expertise developing products for use in these mixed' networks, including UMTS, CDMA and the range of combinations," said Gordon Reichard, Jr., president and CEO of ISCO International. "For UMTS900 deployments, our unique digital RF signal processing is fast enough to clear even the most harmful intrusions from geographically adjacent areas where GSM is deployed."

ISCO launches Proteus in a period of unprecedented global cellular growth and system complexity. Cellular operators are challenged to deploy 3G networks while minimising costs, and one way to keep costs down is spectrum re-farming, allowing frequencies currently used for low-value applications to be re-assigned for high-value applications, all in the name of wireless spectrum efficiency.

UMTS is at the forefront of "third-generation" (3G) cell phone technologies. Proteus supports mixed UMTS/GSM network environments today and has the flexibility to support future technologies, including WiMax and LTE.

"Proteus unleashes area formerly reserved for transition zones and guard bands," said Reichard. "Ultimately, Proteus allows a more rapid deployment of 3G at a lower capital cost while enabling a manageable transition of valuable GSM networks. This means higher speed, higher value data services and applications can be offered sooner on a more widespread basis. To carriers, it is more 3G capacity at lower cost. To their customers, it is better service and next generation applications faster."

FastScan2 is ISCO's patented fourth generation digital RF signal processing technology. FastScan2 uses mathematical algorithms that exploit both time- and frequency-domain signal processing to provide unparalleled speed and sensitivity in the detection and elimination of interference. Proteus with FastScan2 enables optimal spectrum utilisation resulting in improved service levels and lower overall cost of network operation.

Proteus is currently testing in labs and field environments, and will be available for commercial shipments later this quarter.
