In August, Tyler announced that the Nashville-Davidson County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) in Tennessee had successfully gone live with Tyler’s Community Readiness solution. Community Readiness, previously called The Resource Project, is a comprehensive software application that bridges the gap between the jail and the community by connecting residents in jails with local support organizations. Using the solution, incarcerated individuals can take education courses, gain information about how to manage finances, apply and interview for a job, and have resources waiting for them upon their release from jail.
Founder of Community Readiness Silas Deane III said, “We think of the Community Readiness solution as a 'hub for social good.’ It can help make a positive impact on the lives of the incarcerated and set them up for success outside of jail."
Deane was recently recognized for his work in helping to reduce recidivism through this technology, receiving the Leadership and Innovation Award from the National Association of Community and Restorative Justice.
This quarter, we’re featuring a Q&A getting to know State & Federal Group President Bret Dixon.
Q: While the State & Federal Group was recently formed, you’ve been with Tyler for a while. Can you talk a bit about your history with the company?
A: I joined Tyler in 2008 and was one of the few leaders at the time that didn’t join through an acquisition. I served as chief operating officer of the Courts & Justice Division, and then as president of the Justice Group, which included the integration of New World (public safety) into Tyler and our courts business. When Tyler acquired MicroPact in 2019 and NIC in 2021, it made sense for Tyler to create the State & Federal Group to focus on opportunities for this unique group of clients that are not in Tyler’s traditional space of local government.
Q: What are you focused on in your current role?
A: As State & Federal Group President, I help develop and articulate strategies for each business unit within the group, develop senior leaders and directors, and set forth a growth mandate for our sales teams.
Q: What has been the biggest initiative for your group since the NIC acquisition?
A: When we acquired NIC, we were very excited by its payments solution and transaction business models. In the past year, we’ve made a lot of progress merging Tyler’s and NIC’s payment organizations, consolidating the product roadmaps, and enhancing the go-to-market strategies for federal, state, and local markets. We believe Tyler’s large local application install base and our knowledge of local needs combined with NIC’s proven payment expertise will accelerate our growth in the payments space.
Q: What has you excited for the next year in this role?
A: The payments space is a huge market, and we’re positioned the right way operationally to take advantage of it. In addition, we continue to innovate to meet current market demands. One popular example is our new outdoors portfolio which includes parks and recreation management tools, campground and park pass reservations, and hunting and fishing licensing. Our cannabis licensing and compliance solution continues to be in demand and our turnkey, low-code Case Management Development Platform solution continues to gain momentum. It is always rewarding to integrate new acquisitions like MicroPact and NIC into Tyler, but what excites me the most is MicroPact and NIC share Tyler’s passion and ability to fill marketplace needs through creativity and skill while taking care of our clients we have served for decades.
