Mort Crim Joins Talk America Radio Network |
“Second Thoughts” and “News You Care About” Now Air on Unit of IDT Corporation Subsidiary, IDT Media
NEWARK, N.J. – May 3, 2002 – Talk America is pleased to announce today that veteran broadcast journalist Mort Crim’s popular programs, “Second Thoughts” and “News Your Care About,” have become part of the radio syndication network. Talk America Radio Network is part of IDT Media, a subsidiary of IDT Corporation (NYSE: IDT.B, IDT), a leading multinational carrier and telephone company.
“If you followed Neil Armstrong’s moonwalk on ABC radio you heard two voices, Neil’s and Mort Crim’s,” said Howard Jonas, IDT’s Chairman. “Mort didn’t go to the moon. But he has been everywhere else a major story was breaking, from Vietnam on a trip with President Johnson to the Middle East during the Yom Kippur War to just about every other hot spot in the world.”
Mort Crim’s daily 5-minute newscast, “News You Care About,” reflects his belief that human achievement and heroism should be given more airtime to balance the negative aspects of the news. His 90-second essays on “Second Thoughts” rely on humor and personal anecdotes to focus on the positive aspects of human nature. Mort’s combined audience is more than 2 million listeners daily on over 1,200 stations across the U.S.
United Press International named his evening newscasts the Best Local TV Newscast in America on two occasions. In 1995, Mort received the Gold World Medal as Best Radio Personality at the New York Festival’s International Radio Awards. The following year he received the Festival’s Silver Medal for Best Humor Writing.
A successful author as well as broadcaster, he has written the books “One Moment Please,” a collection of his radio scripts; “Like It Is,” a journalist’s view of how personal convictions apply to everyday life and the major events of the day; “Second Thoughts: One Hundred Upbeat Messages for Beat-Up Americans,” based on his current radio series; and “Good News for a Change,” a collection of his inspirational essays.
“Our success in building all aspects of our media business depends on having the right people,” said Jim Courter, IDT’s CEO and Vice Chairman. “That’s why it’s so important that we attract nationally recognized professionals of the caliber of Mort Crim.”
