WOR Radio Veterans Reunited at Unit of IDT Corporation Subsidiary, IDT Ventures, Inc.
NEWARK, N. J. – February 5, 2002 – Talk America is pleased to announce today that Rich Wood and Rich Rapiti have joined the radio syndication network. Talk America Radio Network was recently acquired by IDT Ventures, Inc., a subsidiary of IDT Corporation (NYSE: IDT, IDT.B), a leading multinational carrier and telephone company.
Rich Wood joins Talk America as Senior Vice President/Marketing and Operations, following 10 years as the creator and Director of the WOR Radio Network. Rich Rapiti, who will serve as Director of Affiliate Relations of Talk America, was formerly Affiliate Representative with the WOR Radio Network.
“Talk America’s great content gives people valuable information, entertains them, and helps them form opinions on important subjects,” said Howard Jonas, IDT’s Chairman. “But that’s just the first step. The next one is to make sure their programming is available to as wide an audience as possible. That’s why I’m so pleased to announce the addition of Rich Wood and Rich Rapiti to Talk America’s Marketing and Affiliate Relations departments.”
Wood has been responsible for programming at WPIX-FM (now WQCD), New York; XTRA, San Diego; WJIB (FM), Boston; and KFOG (FM), San Francisco. In addition, he has held various announcing and production positions at WGBH-FM/TV in Boston. Wood has also been Producer of Tom Bodett’s “End of the Road Show,” and Director of Station Relations for ABC Radio Networks.
Before joining WOR, Rapiti had been General Manager of WJDM in Elizabeth, New Jersey; WJBX, Bridgeport, Connecticut; and WARW, Cornwall, New York. He has also been an Account Executive at WRFM and WRVR and Retail sales Manager at WCBS-FM, all in New York, and Director of Sales at WBGO in Newark.
“There’s no better way to show we’re serious about building a media company than by hiring some of the best people in the industry to be part of it,” said Jim Courter, IDT’s CEO and Vice Chairman. “Rich Wood’s and Rich Rapiti’s many successful years in radio programming and production will be a great asset as we build the network.”
Talk America provides an extensive range of programming to more than 600 radio stations across North America. Its programs include “The Bruce Williams Show,” one of America’s favorite consumer affairs shows; “Doug Stephan’s Good Day,” a lively forum for provocative viewpoints on contemporary issues; “Rhona at Night,” a timely source of advice on relationships and more for young people, and “Duke and the Doctor,” a helpful guide to healthy living with lifestyle expert Duke Liberatore and preventive medicine specialist Dr. Jan McBarron.
Joining Talk America represents the second reunion for Wood and Rapiti. Before working together at WOR, they both graduated from Boston’s Emerson College, where they were classmates.
