L2, a Loveland Newcomer, Makes Immediate, Heartfelt Impact |
making a contribution to the community. L2, the newly formed used vehicle specialist, teamed up with Project Self-Sufficiency to provide much needed vehicle service to low income families in the area. The L2 program, which ran from May 9th to May 23rd, provided automotive service on six cars to help area families meet their critical transportation needs. The work ranged from oil changes and tune ups to more significant transmission and engine work. All work was completed free of charge.
As L2 got ready to open its first-ever dealership at 3870 Byrd Drive, Loveland, they had a need to test their service area and equipment under real world conditions. L2 identified Project Self Sufficiency (PS-S) as an ideal partner for the project and then completed automotive repairs for cars provided by PS-S families. This partnership illustrates one of the reasons L2 chose Loveland as the location for its first dealership. Loveland's smaller size allowed L2 to get actively involved in the community and make an immediate contribution to it.
"Having Loveland as our launch community didn't happen by accident," said Marty Mindling, Vice President, L2 Operations. "We wanted to be here. Loveland is an ideal community for L2 and offered a great quality of life for our employees. We were happy to be able to give back to the community so early in our tenure. It was a natural for us to partner with Project Self Sufficiency and help them in their important work."
"We know that L2 had dozens of priorities in getting their first ever dealership up and running," said Mary Carraher, Executive Director for Project Self-Sufficiency. "Still, they took the time to find us and made the effort to coordinate with our members. It says a lot about the organization and we are excited to have them in the community."
The mission of Project Self-Sufficiency is to assist low-income, single parents in their efforts to build and maintain strong, healthy families; achieve economic independence; and become free from community and government assistance. PS-S began serving single-parent families in 1986 and strives to build the capacity of families to become increasingly self-sufficient through comprehensive strategies that provide needed resources and opportunities. One way they provide practical support to the community is through their "Cars for Families" program which accepts vehicle donations and has provided as many as 50 cars to deserving single-parent families during the course of a year.
One PS-S parent who benefited from L2's community involvement said, "They were angels. They restored my hope in humanity. When I brought my car to them, it was smoking, and when I got it back, it was running better than when I bought it. There was no way I could have afforded that work. I couldn't even afford an oil change. They kept me going so that I could get to work and put food on the table for my kids."
