BUTLER, INDIANA — February 6, 1998 — Steel Dynamics, Inc.
(NASDAQ symbol: STLD) today announced that it awarded the first major
equipment contract related to the construction of its structural steel
mill to be located in the upper Midwest.
SDI has awarded SMS Schloemann-Siemag, Inc. of Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania a contract for the supply and commissioning of a heavy
section structural steel rolling mill. The mill will be capable of
rolling in excess of 900,000 tons per year of beams, structural products
and sheet piling utilizing the SMS-patented X-H rolling method.
Other major contracts to be placed over the next three months include
the electric arc furnace, ladle metallurgy facility, caster, reheat
furnace, mill electrics and overhead cranes. The exact location of this
new mill has not yet been determined. The Company’s focus continues to
be in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio.
Steel Dynamics, Inc. is now providing a broad range of flat-rolled
products to the market, including light gauge micro-alloyed and high
strength steels for demanding automotive applications. |
