Plains All American Pipeline Strengthens
Senior Management Team with Addition of
Industry Veterans
(Houston – July 1, 2004) Plains All American Pipeline, L.P. (NYSE: PAA) announced today that its board of directors has appointed John F. Russell to the position of Vice President-Pipeline Operations and James B. Fryfogle to the position of Vice President-Lease Operations. Such appointments are effective July 1, 2004.
“With the growth that Plains All American has experienced over the past several years, it is important for us to selectively add management talent to oversee our growing portfolio of assets and businesses,” said Harry N. Pefanis, Plains All American’s President and COO. “We are pleased today to announce the hiring of John Russell and the promotion of Jim Fryfogle, who joined us in January 2004. Together, these two individuals have almost 60 years of experience in the pipeline and crude oil businesses and are recognized throughout the industry for their expertise in these areas. We are extremely fortunate to add these talented individuals to our team.”
John Russell has almost 30 years of experience in the pipeline industry. He joined Mobil Pipe Line Company as an engineer in 1974 and since then has held numerous positions of increasing responsibility. Since 1999, Mr. Russell has served as Vice President of Business Development & Joint Interest for ExxonMobil Pipeline Company, where he was responsible for all business development, project development and joint venture administration activities for ExxonMobil’s North American crude oil, refined products, natural gas liquids and chemical pipelines. In his position, Mr. Russell had primary responsibility for all commercial activities, including asset sales, joint venture formation, marketing, strategy development, and the development and preparation of annual operating plans and capital budgets, as well as management oversight for the 36 joint venture pipeline interests owned by the company. In his role at Plains All American, Mr. Russell will be responsible for managing the Partnership’s regulated and unregulated pipeline activities. Mr. Russell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University.
James Fryfogle has 29 years of experience in the crude oil industry. He joined Marathon Oil Company as a petroleum engineer in 1975 and since then has held numerous positions in the company’s commercial operations. Prior to his joining Plains All American earlier this year, Mr. Fryfogle served as Manager of Crude Supply and Trading for Marathon Ashland Petroleum (“MAP”). In that position, Mr. Fryfogle was responsible for securing approximately one million barrels per day of crude oil supply for MAP’s refineries in the United States. In his role at Plains All American, Mr. Fryfogle is responsible for managing the Partnership’s lease acquisition and crude oil marketing group. Mr. Fryfogle holds a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum engineering from Marietta College and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Plains All American Pipeline, L.P. is engaged in interstate and intrastate crude oil transportation, and crude oil gathering, marketing, terminalling and storage, as well as the marketing and storage of liquefied petroleum gas and other petroleum products, primarily in Texas, California, Oklahoma, Louisiana and the Canadian Provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
